The Skin Care Routine of Dreams

My name is Temilade Adeyinka, I am 23 years old and a proud skincare junkie.

When I was 13 years old, my mum bought me my first ever face cleanser from Clean & Clear. I distinctly remember her showing me how to use it and soaking it all up. She also spoke to me about the benefits of thoroughly cleansed skin in the morning and night. The next year she bought me a toner and moisturiser for my face and it has been game over since then. 10 years later and I now have an overflowing medicine cabinet that my mum comes to “borrow” stuff from all the time.

My philosophy with skin is really simple: you get what you put on.

Every product that goes on my skin has been thoroughly researched, peer reviewed and cross-referenced with various skincare blogs. This doesn’t mean that I have perfect skin, because I breakout sometimes, but it does mean that I am in as much control as possible. My friends have also reviewed some of the best products I’ve ever gotten and I trust their judgments and opinions. It’s also important to know the best way to use the products you buy- proper application key. Some of my worst breakouts have been because I was trying to do too much in one go and not applying the products properly, so I try and keep my routine as straightforward as possible.

Morning Routine

My morning routine is pretty fast because it’s never that deep for me to forgo extra minutes of sleep to spend more time on my skin, no sir. I start off with my Keihl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser, it has a gentle foam and makes my skin feel squeaky clean without completely drying it out, which I love. After I pat my skin dry, I use my Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel to tone my face. I like using this toner because it’s mild and makes my skin feel cool and refreshed after I am done using it. I then follow up with my Glossier moisturizer and my body Shop Skin defense sunscreen. If I’m living on the edge, I’ll dab on some eye cream from Ole Henriksen. Finish.

Night Time routine

This is my favorite part.

I first use a hot face towel on my face to open up my pores and it feels amazing. For my first cleanse, I use my Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing balm (this smells really good btw). I read somewhere that using an oil cleanser for your first cleanse helps draw out impurities, pollution and dirt from your face. Lagos has plenty of all three so I don’t skip the first oil cleanse. I then cleanse my face with my Clinique Sonic face cleansing brush and my Cetaphil cleanser or my Tatcha The Deep Cleanse. By the time I’m done with this my skin is CLEAN. I then move on to use my Biologique Reserche P50 PIGM 400 and then my Glossier moisturizer. I keep it very minimal when I use my Biologique Reserche because it’s quite strong and you have to pat it on with a cotton pad or it’ll irritate your skin. On the days when I don’t use Biologique Reserche, I use my Alpha H Liquid Gold (love this) or my Sunday Riley A+ High Dose Retinol Serum (this is fantastic). When my skin is breaking out I use my Sunday Riley U.F.O Clarifying Face Oil because it drastically minimizes the appearance of spots and gets the job done. After about three days my spot has completely vanished, no joke. If I’m feeling extra I spritz my face with my Tatcha Luminous skin mist. I recently bought the Sunday Riley Good Genes and I use it about twice a week. As you can probably tell Sunday Riley is one of my favourite brands.

Some nights I mask, and I usually alternate between sheet masks and clay masks. I currently love the Dr Jart + Pore Minimalist sheet masks and the Ormaskin Spot Eradicator Mask.
