Now to Him who is able to do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think, according to His power that is at work within us
Ephesians 3 vs 20
I’ve quoted the bible verse above because a lot of us are expectant or are awaiting the ‘superabundant’ blessings that God has promised us but sometimes forget to acknowledge that there is a condition attached to it.
How Much of Gods Power is at Work Within You?
Okay guys, I’m going to try and break this down so please, stick with me.
Let’s start with understanding what the power of God really is.
As Christians we probably hear that phrase a lot and it seems fairly self explanatory but as with most things in the Bible, digging deeper is likely to reveal a more digestible truth.
The bible was originally written in three languages; Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. So for deeper understanding I’ll translate the word ‘power’ from its original (greek) version to English. Dunamis is the Greek word for power and by definition it means an intrinsic force that exists primarily because of its carrier. The word ‘Intrinsic’ means to exist naturally.
Generally speaking, the English word ‘power’ can be translated to mean ‘the ability or capacity to do something or act in a particular way’ but when translated in the context of the bible, it means something else! Interesting, right?!
Anyways, after a few minutes of translating, meditating and speaking to the Holy Spirit, I came to this realisation; The phrase ‘power of God’ doesn’t simply delineate or describe Gods strength or Gods way of being God (thank you to those of you who replied my Instagram story. Very high levels of appreciation!).
No, the ‘power of God’ describes the power that lives within us.
In other words, Gods power, that is, a power which exists simply because of God, the very force which drives our mighty God is the same exact power that is at work within us – The Holy Spirit. We are living, breathing manifestations of the power of God.
Take a look at this bible verse;
But as for me, I am filled with power –with the Spirit of the Lord.
Micah 3 vs 8
The word power and spirit of the Lord are used interchangeably. In the 1st chapter of the book Ephesians, Paul - one of the most powerful (pun intended) men in the bible - tries to make us realize this truth in saying that the same power that raised Jesus Christ up from the dead is the same power that we have inside of us.
Essentially, what I’m trying to say is that we have Gods power. We have a lot more authority than we think and it is my prayer that this post will help some of you realize how POWERFUL you can be. I say ‘can be’ because I’m sure we all know that Gods power is given to every believer as a gift. It is NOT a reward;
Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ
Galatians 3 vs 2.
However, the question is How much of this gift is actively at work within you?
My next blog post will assist in answering this question.
Love always,
